HGH – Youth in an Expensive Syringe
Looking at the way Hollywood is embracing Human Growth Hormones or HGH for anti aging benefits, you would think that it is the answer to aging and that youth can be contained in a syringe.
Feeling a bit over the hill? Get HGH. Getting a few lines around the eyes? Get HGH. A few too many gray hairs on your head? Get HGH.
Chances are, there is always something a Hollywood ‘celebrity’ will want to fix in the fight against time. After all, that is what Tinseltown is all about : youth and you had better have loads of it.
Suzanne Sommers is not shy about using the hormone, claiming it to be ‘sex in a capsule’; nor is our action hero of yester years Sylvester Stallone, who used it to boost his muscle mass for Rocky IV. In a report in Vanity Fair, the use of HGH for anti aging benefits in Hollywood is rife.
One Hollywood filmmaker claimed:
‘I am one of the pathetically insecure Hollywood people who, like everyone else who lives here, is overly concerned with looks. My internal organs got healthier quickly. And I could feel it – the main impact of HGH. … is really useful, I found. It very much imbues you with a sense of clarity and confidence.”
So what is Human Growth Hormones or HGH?
According to the Mayo Clinic,
“Growth hormone is produced by the pituitary gland — a pea-sized structure at the base of the brain — to fuel childhood growth and help maintain tissues and organs throughout life. Beginning in middle age, however, the pituitary gland slowly reduces the amount of growth hormone it produces. This natural slowdown has prompted an interest in the use of synthetic human growth hormone (HGH) to stave off the realities of old age.”
So far so good. Make sense, right? Use HGH to boost those fading glands and get a much needed oomph in the youth department. But the article goes on :
“Human growth hormone may cause a number of side effects for healthy adults, including:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Swelling in the arms and legs
- Joint pain
- Muscle pain
- For men, enlargement of breast tissue (gynecomastia)
Human growth hormone may also contribute to conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.”
Add the price tag of roughly $11,000 a year to sustain this fountain of youth and it seems like a very high price to pay to try and claw back a few years.
But, the drug is not illegal in California, and as long as there is a prescription for it, it is all above board. And with such high demand, it is no wonder that a lot of doctors are running with this ‘youth’ baton.
Doctors such as Dr. Andre Berger:
“Anti-aging medicine is about making people as vital, functional, happy, and active as they can be. It’s about maximizing their potential. People are going to be living longer. This is about preventing the chronic diseases and all the ravages that affect your quality of life.’
Or Dr Uzzi Reiss, who calls HGH a ‘rejuvenating force’:
“I’ve been taking HGH for many years. I have the energy and vibrancy of a man half my age. I don’t get sick, don’t get jet-lagged. I can’t see why anybody would inject HGH if it doesn’t have any benefits.”
I don’t know about you, but there is something just plain sad with all these ‘stars’ putting their health at risk in an attempt to look and act twenty years less than they are. Come on Hollywood, it is time to embrace yourself whatever your age – trust me, you may be a little lined but you will look just as good.
Don’t believe me? Just look at Clint Eastwood.
